Located just outside of Ocean City, MD, Bolt Headbands was officially born in April of 2007 and just recently changed to Bolt Headgear in Jan. of 2008.  It is a small, family business owned & operated by motorcycle enthusiast, Mary Bradford.

This all started out of frustration of not being able to find "head gear" in colors & fabrics that still made me feel like a woman.  As a female biker who "rides her own"  it was a challenge to find anything that was comfortable and would keep my thick long hair in place & out of my face.  Not only that, but whenever I found something suitable, it was black!!!!   Most items on the market today are geared towards men & not women.

So, I took on the challenge of sewing my own stuff in fabrics that were soft, comfortable & fashionable.  I started designing & making headbands and head socks  for myself.   I got many compliments and requests from family & friends to make some for them as well.  My design & pattern was very different than those on the market and I am very particular about the fabrics that I use.  All of my fabrics are purchased right here in the USA!

Getting my motorcycle license was a BIG accomplishment for me.  As a wife, mother, professional educator,  I have a lot of roles to fill and high expectations to meet.   No one EVER expected to see me ride a motorcycle.  Words cannot describe the feeling of freedom & accomplishment that one receives when riding a motorcycle especially from a women's perspective.  It's something that I am very proud of and I simply do not want to look like "a guy" when riding my bike!

 Although there are similar products out there, I truly believe that my product stands out because of my unique design and use of rare, high quality, comfortable stretch fabrics that appeal to both men & women.    Like a BOLT of lightning, Bolt Headgear products are typically bright, vivid, colorful and different.  They have pizzazz and style unlike any other do-rag or head accessory on the market today and they are very easy to wear & comfortable for most persons.  Whether you are a fellow biker, a drummer in a band, an ER surgeon, a chef, a cancer/chemo survivor or a fashion diva, Bolt Headgear has something different and comfortable for you.

I thank my fellow Ladies of Harley members for their words of encouragement to just "do it." I also thank my husband for his support & help--I certainly could not do this without him.   I also thank all of my patrons who have blessed me with positive feedback and the local retailers who "took a chance" in carrying my product.  I really love hearing back from people about how pleased they are with my product--especially from cancer/chemo patients who wear my Softailz™.  That alone is intrinsically rewarding.   I do this because it makes me happy.  When I see a fellow biker go down the road wearing one of my Softailz™ or someone wearing one of my headbands, it truly makes me feel appreciated & proud that many people out there are wearing something that I made.  Because of those people & the referrals that they have given me, Bolt Headgear continues to slowly grow and hopefully in the future it will be a name that will be recognized nationwide and perhaps worldwide.
